In 1986, brick by brick, two turn-of-the-century hotels were painstakingly rebuilt in the heart of San Diego Gaslamp Quarter. Today, you can get a taste of the Victorian Era at the Horton Grand, with its expertly crafted re-creation of San Diego history and Victorian architecture. Each of its 132 units (including 25 suites) is unique—no two rooms are alike—furnished with antique queen-sized beds, a hand-carved armoire, a cozy fireplace, and lace curtains, along with modern amenities. Some rooms overlook the hotel's charming New Orleans-fashioned courtyard, while others have spectacular city views. The hotel offers two special treats. Each room has a diary with the handwritten comments of previous guests. And on Saturday afternoons, from 2:30 to 5, the Hotel Grand hosts tea time. You can get a classic English Afternoon Tea or an elegant English High Tea.
