The home of the San Diego Padres baseball team, Petco Park opened
on April 8, 2004 in the South Embarcadero/East Village area
of Downtown San Diego. As the Padres organization puts it, "Petco
Park is spectacular in every way, combining the best sight lines
in baseball with breathtaking views of San Diego. Architecturally
magnificent, it celebrates the sea, the sky, the natural beauty,
cultural diversity, and unique spirit of our region." The
seating bowl is divided into distinct "neighborhoods."
The signature towers and terraces of the 42,000-seat stadium
offer panoramic views of the Bay, the Downtown skyline, Balboa
Park, and the mountains on the horizon. The exterior is made
of natural stone and stucco and the landscaping—including the
Park at the Park beyond the outfield fence—is superb.
