A small, manmade cove protected by a concrete breakwater near
downtown La Jolla, the Children's Pool—also known as the
"Casa" by locals—has been overtaken by harbor seals in
recent years. Under federal law, seals are protected animals—whether
to remove them has become a controversial local issue. Harassing
the seals is prohibited. It's a fine place to go with your kids,
however, to get a close-up look at seal behavior. You can also
walk out onto the breakwater to have a look at the tidal pools
teeming with marine life.
