Mt. Soledad Natural Park
	The wide-open grass areas, plentiful benches, and nature walkways to view the native chaparral and wildlife make this park a favorite place to eat a leisurely, contemplative lunch. On top of that, the 800-foot Mt. Soledad offers some of the most awe-inspiring 360-degree views in the county—south to San Diego, Coronado, and Mexico; north to the University of California and Torrey Pines, east to the mountains, and west to the Pacific. It's been easy to find because of its towering white cross, which has graced the site for decades. The presence of the cross generated controversy over the last few years, however, and voters recently decided to move the cross to a nearby church. The serene mountain park is also the site of the Mt Soledad Veterans Memorial walls, which will eventually hold 3,200 black granite plaques with the names and photos of war veterans.
