Located on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Inyo National Forest, the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area is built on the north side of Mammoth Mountain, a volcano. The mountain has more than 3,500 acres of skiable terrain and is served by 27 lifts, including nine express quads and three gondolas. The area has 3,100 feet of vertical, rising to an elevation of 11,053 feet. The longest run is three miles. The top of the mountain has challenging chutes and open mogul runs, but the mountain can accommodate skiers of all experience levels. The terrain breakdown is 15 percent expert; 20 percent advanced, 40 percent intermediate, and 25 percent beginner. Mammoth Mountain is also popular with snowboarders and, in the summer, with mountain bikers.
Equipment rentals are available.
