People who love the outdoor lifestyle…especially boaters and golfers.
There are so many celebrities who own primary or vacation houses
in Newport Beach that you can actually take a boat tour of their
homes (or former homes). Notables who live or once lived in the
area include John Wayne (he spent the last 13 years of his life
here and is buried in the city), best-selling writers Joseph Wambaugh
and Dean Koontz, and the former ace pitcher Jim Abbott (born with
one hand). Other former and current celebrity residents include
David Nelson (of “Ozzie & Harriet” fame), Michelle Pfeiffer, Bo
Derek, Kelly McGillis, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dennis Rodman, Chuck
Norris, and Dick Dale (“King of the Surf Guitar”). Shirley Temple’s
former home became the long-time home of Buddy “Jed Clampett” Ebsen
and then was purchased by the late comedian Joey Bishop. Humphrey Bogart, Lauren
Bacall, William Holden, Greta Garbo, and Richard Nixon also once
lived here.
