Mission Beach's beachfront amusement park features the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster, one of only two original oceanfront roller coasters still in operation on the West Coast. Built in 1925 and recently restored, it is not for the faint of heart. It's a very rough ride.
Other favorite attractions include the Beach Blaster, on which passengers are swung 60 feet in the air to 120 degrees in both directions, and the Flowrider, an endless wave on which to surf or body surf. Belmont Park is also famous for The Plunge, built in 1925 and, at 60x175 feet, was once the largest salt-water swimming pool in the world. In 1940, the salt water began to damage the filtering system, so it was replaced by fresh water. Its claim to fame today is it's "the largest indoor heated pool in Southern California." You'll also find bumper cars, an arcade, a carousel, and shops and restaurants in Belmont Park.
