Lilian Rice Architecture
Beginning in the 1920s, pioneering female architect Lilian Rice had—and continues to have—a huge influence on the ambience of Rancho Santa Fe with her distinctive Spanish Colonial Revival style. She designed the La Flecha House, which is now home to the Rancho Santa Fe Historical Association (another Point of Interest listed here on our site). "I found joy at Rancho Santa Fe," the late Rice once said. "Every environment there calls for simplicity and beauty—the gorgeous natural landscape, the gently broken topography, the nearby mountains." She was the designer of almost all of the Ranch buildings that have been listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings. While many of these are buildings in the Village, there are also private estates among them, so please be respectful of privacy when you view some of these examples: 6122 Paseo Delicias; 6427 La Plateada; 6855 La Valle Plateada; 17078 El Mirador; 6112 Paseo Delicias; 16915 Avenida de Acacias; 16780 La Gracia; 5610 La Crescenta; and 5880 San Elijo.
