Connecting San Francisco with Marin County, this world-famous orange suspension bridge was declared officially open on May 27, 1937 after four years of work and 11 construction fatalities. Built for $35 million, it is seven miles in length including the approaches. The height of the towers is 746 feet above water. Total annual vehicle crossings are more than 41 million.
