Visited by five million people annually, Stearns Wharf is one of the area's biggest tourist attractions. Built in 1872, the still mostly wooden structure has survived fires, earthquakes, and wars. The West Coast's oldest operating wooden pier started out as a port for cargo and passenger ships. In the 1930s, it was home to floating casinos. It became a U.S. Navy installation during World War II. Today, it hosts pleasure boats, a fishing fleet, and is the embarkation point of many tourist vessels. The whale watching tours are particularly popular. Stearns Wharf also offers the Sea Center museum, unique shops, and terrific fresh seafood restaurants.
Located at State Street and Cabrillo Blvd.
