Dedicated to preserving the memory of the Chumash Indians, who lived in this area long ago, the Center describes itself as "a live, active, natural resource park. Located in a wilderness area, the Chumash Interpretive Center offers acres of discovery, exploration, wisdom, and nature. Come learn from its teachers—the air, the earth, water, and sun. Listen to the message of the animals and birds; and you will be moved by the great lessons of root, pattern, and destiny (learn from the past, use in the present, protect the future)." The onsite museum is filled with treasures, art, artifacts, and history. The Chumash Interpretive Center offers nature walk tours every Saturday at 1 p.m. The hikes are about three hours long and include touring a Chumash village and visiting pictograph caves.
