The South Course at San Diego’s Torrey Pines was named the best municipal course in California by Golf Digest magazine, it was announced Wednesday.
The ranking appears in the magazine’s August issue as part of its “Best Muny in all 50 States” feature.
“The Torrey Pines courses are world-renowned gems that have earned their reputations through the hard work and dedication of city workers,” [San Diego] Mayor Jerry Sanders said.
Torrey Pines, which is operated by the city of San Diego, played host to the 2008 U.S. Open.
There are 179 municipal golf courses in California.
